Jay Washington wins the Best Player of the Conference Award

Date Posted: 01 February 2011     4 Comments

Before the Finals Series between the San Miguel Beermen and the Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters started, Jay Washington said that this one was personal for him. He wanted to win the title against the team that traded him away.

Looking back, the journey has been pretty good for Washington. Yes, he was traded but his back-to-back Best Player of the Conference Awards are more than enough to make everyone realize that he is an extremely talented player.

The do-it-all forward was the runaway choice with Talk ‘N Text’s Harvey Carey finishing second. The race was tight after the end of the elimination phase but Carey’s performance dipped in the semis while Washington flourished by dominating Ginebra’s weak frontline.

Arwind Santos finished third with Alaska’s Joe Devance and TNT’s Ali Peek rounding up the Top 5.

For Washington, this new accolade will not mean much if it does not come along with the All-Filipino Cup title. “It’s a great individual accomplishment but my goal remains to win the championship,” said

Washington moments after being handed award by PBA commissioner Chito Salud and chairman Rene Pardo.

As of the moment, the Beermen and the Tropang Texters are tied with two wins apiece, which makes it now a best-of-three series. The teams will break the tie on Wednesday in Game 5 of the Finals.
