All hail the Minnesota Lynx, Queens of the WNBA
Date Posted: 12 October 2011 0 CommentsThe Minnesota Lynx are the best team in the WNBA. They dominated the game but overmatched Atlanta Dream, winning three straight games in the Finals to earn their first WNBA championship.
It was a dream finish for the Lynx who, before this year, have never won a series in the WNBA playoffs. Their last trip to the big dance was way back in 2004. Drafting the prolific Maya Moore is one of the main reasons why the Lynx were suddenly competitive but the management surrounded her with a bunch of talented veterans who were all hungry for a WNBA title.
Seimone Augustus was named Finals MVP, averaging 24.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.7 assists per game in the series and shooting 58.7% from the floor. She led the Lynx to a dominant performance in the Finals and although she did not make it to the All-WNBA First Team, much less win the regular season MVP award, she was vindicated with a Finals MVP trophy and a WNBA championship to boot.
It was a bitter end to the season of the Atlanta Dream as they were again bridesmaids for the second straight year. Last season, they fell short against the Seattle Storm. Now they fell again to the rampaging Lynx.
The 15th season on the WNBA has been one of the best in history, clearly showing that WNBA only gets better through time.
