The 2008 FIBA Diamond Ball

The 2008 FIBA Diamond Ball for men will take place at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Center, Nanjing City, China. It is an invitational exhibition tournament played once every four years. This year will feature the participation of Angola, Argentina, Australia, China, Iran and Serbia and will be played from July 29 – August 1, 2008.

The 3rd edition is hosted by the Basketball Association of the People's Republic of China.

The 2008 FIBA Diamond Ball will be an outstanding overture to the basketball tournaments at the Beijing Olympics. Not only will Nanjing host the reigning Olympic champion Argentina, but with Angola, Australia and Iran, they will also be hosting the reigning continental champions from Africa, Oceania and Asia. In addition, the European powerhouse and 2002 FIBA World Champion Serbia will leave its footprints in Nanjing.

Undoubtedly the major attraction at the tournament will be the appearance of the Chinese team with its hero, Yao Ming. The fact that China will have big ambitions at the Olympics and that the Diamond ball is played just one week before the Olympic basketball tournament will draw the attention of the whole international community. This will certainly result in an Olympic atmosphere that we can embrace in this beautiful city.
